Social Value Statement
How CIG creates value for the places and people it works with, and how that value is measured and reported.
CIG SW Ltd is a Bristol-based contractor working across the South West and South Wales through three divisions: Construction, Interiors and Fire Protection. Most of our projects are in occupied buildings, live campuses and residential streets, so the way we work affects the people around us as much as the finished job does.
This statement sets out the social value we commit to on every project, the evidence behind the figures we quote, and how we report against them. It sits alongside our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, our Fairness, Inclusion and Respect Policy and our Carbon Reduction Plan, all signed in July 2026.
1. Local economy
We keep money in the regions we work in. Our labour is drawn from the area around each project, and we buy from local subcontractors and merchants wherever the package allows.
The figures below are taken from our accounts and site records, not estimated. They cover 1 January 2025 to 30 September 2026 and are refreshed each year.
| Measure | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Site labour living within 30 miles of the project | 97% | Operative records for live projects; the remaining 3% are specialist trades brought in for specific packages |
| Supply-chain spend within 30 miles of our Iron Acton office | 51% | Approved and paid supplier bills, matched to supplier addresses |
| Supply-chain spend kept in the South West and South Wales | 89% | As above, including the 51% within 30 miles |
| Spend with suppliers elsewhere in the UK | 11% | Mainly specialist manufacturers and testing houses |
Supply-chain figures are shares of spend with located subcontractors and suppliers. They exclude national merchants, which we buy from through their Bristol and Bath branches, and the payroll companies that pay our self-employed operatives.
2. Employment and skills
We employ and train people from the areas we work in and give them a route to progress within the company. Every operative completes a CIG site induction and holds the CSCS card appropriate to their trade before starting on site.
- Recruit locally first, advertising site and office roles in the region of the project
- Offer trainee placements and work experience through our divisions and supply chain
- Arrange site visits and careers talks with schools and colleges in our regions when the client and the site allow
- Fund training that leads to recognised qualifications, from CSCS and SSSTS to fire-stopping and fire-door installer certification
3. Community and charity
Our community work is led by the people in the business, and much of it is personal. We are linked with the Alfie Nick Foundation, a Bristol charity supporting disadvantaged children across England and Wales, and we support The Restore Trust, which helps socially excluded people in Bristol into skills and work. We sponsor eleven grassroots sports clubs and teams, most of them the clubs our own people play for and coach.
Since January 2025 we have made charitable donations of more than 16,600 pounds, including 11,500 pounds to the Alfie Nick Foundation. The full record is published in our annual Charity and Community Report.
- Hold our charity golf day every year and donate everything it raises
- Sponsor grassroots cricket, football, futsal and rugby across Bristol and Somerset, on multi-year agreements where clubs want the certainty
- Give colleagues paid time to volunteer for local causes
- Donate labour and materials to clubs and schools where we can, as with the gazebo at Wembdon Cricket and Football Club and the kitchen decoration at Bishops Hull Primary School
- Support charities that help people into skills and employment, and industry charities focused on the mental health and welfare of construction workers
4. Good neighbours on site
Working in occupied buildings means residents, staff, students and patients live and work alongside us. We plan for them, not around them.
- A named site contact for neighbours and building users on every project, with notice of noisy or disruptive work before it starts
- Considerate deliveries, parking and working hours agreed with the client and, where relevant, the local authority
- Clean, secure and clearly signed sites, with dust, noise and vibration controlled to the plan agreed for the building
- Fire safety and safe escape routes maintained throughout the works in every occupied building
5. Environment
Our Carbon Reduction Plan sets a 2025 baseline of 5,975 kg CO2e for the energy and fuel used directly by the business, with a target to halve it in 2026. Fuel, energy and waste are now recorded monthly so that progress is reported rather than described. Waste is segregated on site and diverted from landfill through licensed carriers, in line with our Waste Management Policy and Environmental Management System Policy.
6. Responsible business
- Pay our supply chain fairly and on time, with clear scopes and agreed terms
- Treat everyone on our sites and in our offices with fairness and respect, as set out in our Fairness, Inclusion and Respect Policy
- Maintain SafeContractor approval, SMAS Worksafe certification and Constructionline Gold membership
- Run our sites to the standards of our Health and Safety Policy, with a competent site manager on every project
7. Measuring and reporting
We measure social value from our own records: Xero for spend and donations, operative records for where our labour lives, and training records for qualifications gained. Figures are published on our Sustainability page and updated each year.
On public-sector and housing projects we report in the format the client requires, including National TOMs measures where they are specified, and we agree the baseline and reporting period at the start of the contract.
8. Governance
This statement is approved by the Managing Director and reviewed annually alongside the company policies signed in July 2026. Questions about it, or requests for project-specific social value plans, can be sent to the office at Iron Acton.
Approved: Redford Pennycook, Managing Director, September 2026. CIG SW Ltd, Iron Acton, Bristol.
